| This month's feature is a list of the 70 different kinds of plants that I am growing currently in my small Seattle apartment. Last November, I moved from a large house and garden to a small apartment 800 feet away. The move forced me to give away a great many potted plants. Those that I kept, along with new acquisitions, are listed below. |
| At the moment, all are alive, but the Cardamine, Ipomœa, Piper and Sonchus are not certain to survive long, for various reasons. |
Because I am writing a book about edible houseplants, I have tasted if not eaten most of these. I am limited much by having little square footage and sufficient light. The humidity hovers usually around 60% and the temperature varies from below 60 degrees F in the winter to approaching 80 degrees on the hot days of summer. I strive to achieve a dark cool night, and bright warm day, for plant health as well as my own comfort. Depending on the kind of plant, bloom or foliage fertilizer is applied as needed.
