Plant of the Month: September 2021

Seasonal changes in a Seattle garden.
Below I share 12 photos I took from the same spot in a Seattle garden that I tend. These pictures show how the plant life changes throughout the year. Though the differernce between the dead of winter and height of summer is dramatic, overall there is no sharp line separating the four seasons; it is a gradual, incremental progression. At any one time of year, one or more plants stands out. This garden was renovated in 2004, and most of the plants plus all the hardscaping and benches seen date from then. The dogwood tree in the background is older. If I did not prune, groom, weed, water and fertilize carefully, the garden would become an overgrown chaotic jungle.
